  • Choosing Your Gallery Wall Surface: Drywall vs. Wood Panel

We offer two wall surfaces for your gallery needs: drywall and wood paneling. Your choice depends on your specific priorities for weight, durability, and maintenance.

    Drywall: The Gallery Standard

For a classic, gallery-friendly surface, drywall is an excellent choice.

    • Pros:

      • Familiar Surface: Drywall is the industry standard for galleries, providing a universally recognized look and feel.

      • Ease of Maintenance: It is easy to patch and repair with common tools and materials, making it simple to touch up after hanging art.

    • Considerations:

      • Weight: Drywall panels are significantly heavier than wood, making them less ideal for frequent relocation. A 1/4” drywall panel weighs twice as much as a wood panel of the same size.

      • Water Susceptibility: It can be susceptible to water damage, which can weaken the gypsum core and cause the material to soften and disintegrate.

    Wood Panel: The Lightweight Alternative

If portability and durability are your main concerns, wood paneling is the superior option.

    • Pros:

      • Lightweight: Our 1/4” or 1/8” thick wood panels are much lighter than drywall, making them easy to transport and rearrange.

      • Durability: Wood panels hold screws and nails more securely than drywall and are more resistant to minor water damage.

    • Considerations:

      • Specialized Maintenance: While similar to drywall, repairing wood panels may require basic woodworking skills and tools like sandpaper and wood glue.

    Summary

    • Choose Drywall if: You prefer a traditional gallery aesthetic and don't need to move the walls frequently.

    • Choose Wood Panel if: You prioritize a lightweight, durable, and easily transportable structure.

    • Locking Wheels: To secure the wall in place.

    • Connecting Locks (Splitting Wall): Used for joining modular walls.

    Accessories

    • Wrench: A small tool to adjust the leveling legs.

    • Owner's Brochure: A guide to help you set up and care for your new wall.

    • Connecting dowels (Splitting Wall): Used to align the wall surfaces together.

    • Hex tool (Splitting Wall): A 8mm tool used to engage or disengage the connecting locks.

  • Splitting Walls: The Flexible, Modular Solution

Splitting walls are a flexible, modular option that can be connected or separated to redefine your space.

    • Key Benefits:

      • Versatility: Connect and split the walls as needed to adapt your layout for different exhibits or events.

      • Modularity: Create a variety of configurations that are not possible with a fixed wall.

    • A Note on Installation:

      • On uneven floor surfaces, connecting the walls can be difficult. We manage this with solutions like floor levelers, connecting locks, and alignment dowels to ensure a seamless connection.

Fixed Walls: The Stable, Classic Choice

Fixed walls are a non-modular gallery option, ideal for permanent or long-term installations.

    • Key Benefits:

      • Stability: Their fixed nature provides a strong, stable structure.

      • Minimal Maintenance: Requires fewer parts and less upkeep compared to a modular system.

      • Cost-Effective: Their simplified construction can lead to a more affordable solution.

    • A Note on Portability:

      • Very large fixed walls may be difficult to move or maneuver in smaller spaces due to their size and rigidity.

    Summary

    • Splitting Walls are ideal for versatility and reconfiguring your space, but they may require a bit more setup on uneven floors.

    • Fixed Walls are better for permanent installations and long-term stability, and they require less maintenance.

  • Maintenance

Taking care of your gallery display products starts will understanding that there are three main maintenance needs to keep them working: Properly puttying holes from screws & nails, painting & cleaning, and handing your walls with care.

    Storage

Ensure that you store your gallery display products in a cool and dry place. These items are made of wood. Wood is susceptible to warping when exposed to high humidity and/or flooding.

Be aware, do not let other objects, especially another gallery display product, touch or lean against each other for the paint may get marred or damaged.
